The situation of rail transport in Ukraine

Even though Ukraine railway declared that 2018 tariff increase (each quarter 3.5% increase) should improve situation with deliveries – still no attempts for renovation and development are noticed. Even though grain season not started yet main railway operators already claim shortage of rail wagons which is caused by not proper planning as well of locomotive shortages. Traditionally most complicated western part of Ukraine Lviv railway district – according to last report from Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine in subject area nowadays 18-24 main diesel locomotives are missing every day for proper operating.
Locomotive shortage is a serios issue across all Ukraine railway – it leads for delays in prompt operation moves on railway junction stations – loaded wagons can weight at such stations from to 2 up to 6 days weighting for voyage to continue.
Average index of wagon round trip within Ukraine nowadays is 9.61 days which is 18% longer then 2017 figures.
Taking into account above stated for container shipments it is expected that direct block trains will become more and more poplar and besides bloc train for Kiev-Yuzhniy and Dnepr-Yuzhniy new directions will be added.
