The shipping lines announced the introduction of a bunker surcharge 30.05.2018

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that due to the rapid increase in the price of oil (which reached its peak from 2014 to about $ 80 per barrel), first Maersk together with MSC, and now CMA and ZIM announced the introduction of Bunker Adjustment Factor. The following figures were announced by carriers as of June 1, 2018 for all transactions:

The allowance for the BAF USD / per cntr.

* Maersk
– USD 60/20 ‘;
– USD 120/40 ‘;
– USD 90 / 20’REF;
– USD 180 / 40’REF;

* MSC
– USD 50/20 ‘;
– USD 100/40 ‘;
– USD 50 / 20’REF;
– USD 100 / 40’REF;

* CMA
– USD 55/20 ‘;
– USD 110/40 ‘;
– USD 85 / 20’REF;
– USD 170 / 40’REF;

* ZIM
– USD 65/20 ‘;
– USD 130/40 ‘;

At the same time, some of the carriers listed above say that allowances may not be fully applied to “long contract rates”, however, as of July 1, there will probably be no exceptions, and the BAF surcharge will be realized for 100% of shipments.

Meanwhile, other players, such as ONE, COSCO, Hapag, have not yet announced their intentions, but most likely will also be forced to review rates.

It is likely that if stabilization in the bunker market does not occur, carriers will return to the previous tariff scheme, which will be calculated using the formula: “sea freight + bunker” for each month.
