HAPAG-LLOYD PREDICTS PROFIT GROWTH AMID STRONG DEMAND

German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is forecasting profit growth amid higher-than-expected earnings.

In fiscal 2020, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) will be € 2.6–2.7 billion, up from a previously announced € 2.4–2.6 billion. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased from € 1.1-1.3 billion to € 1.25-1.35 billion.

“In the fourth quarter, market demand for container capacity also remained surprisingly strong, and today we are deploying all available vessels. In addition, we are on track to save money with our Productivity Program. Given these circumstances, the results for the current fiscal year will exceed our previous forecasts”, said Rolf Hubben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.

Note that the company has a fleet of 234 modern container vessels.
