For a week, prices for diesel fuel rose by more than 1 UAH / l – 12.10.2018

Rising prices for gasoline and diesel began from the 20th of August. On average, during this period, the price of gasoline rose by 3.50 UAH / l (12%), and for diesel fuel – by 3.60 UAH / l (13%).

October 9, the rise in prices in a number of large gas station networks continues. The weighted average price for diesel fuel was 31.22 UAH / l (+ 0.13%).

Such behavior of the fuel market is due to a combination of a sharp weakening of the national currency and the rise in world oil prices. During this period, the cost of one barrel of oil increased by almost 20% from 72 to 86 USD, which led to an increase in quotations for petroleum products. At the same time, the hryvnia weakened against the dollar by 1.30 UAH / USD.

On Tuesday, October 9, the rise in the price of diesel fuel continued. Among the main market operators, the highest price for diesel fuel was in the WOG and SOCAR networks (33.49 UAH / l). In Tuesday, the cost of diesel fuel in the consolidated network of the Privat group AVIAS and UKRNAFTA amounted to UAH 30.00 / l.

On October 9, in the networks of AMIC and Neftek, diesel also added in price per liter – up to 31.99 UAH / l.

Over the course of three days, the price of gasoline and diesel fuel in the Nadezhda network grew by an average of 70 kopecks / l.

The Shell, Glusco, BRSM-Nafta, Chipo and Luxwen networks increased prices by 3–70 kopecks / liter.

Today there remains the potential for growth in retail prices. Moreover, domestic prices do not keep up with external ones. That is, the wholesale cost of imported fuel purchased by traders is growing faster than retail prices at domestic gas stations. Therefore, we can safely predict that in the coming week we will observe a steady increase in the cost of a liter of fuel by an average of 50 kopecks.

It is worth noting that taxes account for almost half the cost of fuel. Excise tax on petroleum products is calculated in euros. The total currency component in the cost of fuel at gas stations reaches 85%, so the relationship between currency fluctuations and the cost of petroleum products is direct. This is reported in the Oil and Gas Association of Ukraine (NAU).

According to the calculations of experts of the oil and gas market, each hryvnia in the dollar rate is equivalent to one hryvnia per liter of gasoline and diesel fuel.
