Chinese autumn holidays 2020

We remind you about the traditional holidays in China - the Autumn Festival and the Day of Education of the People's Republic of China, 
which coincided this year, and are held from October 1 to 8. Which, in turn, predictably, will affect important aspects of logistics both 
before and after the holidays, namely:

– Non-compliance with the agreed schedules for the production of goods due to the leave of employees of the period of factories, which goes beyond the period of holidays;
– Deficiency in the availability of transport rolling stock for the delivery of containers to the ports of departure, which also entails a disruption in the delivery schedule;
– The shortage of free seats on ships is already being traced at the present time, long before the start of the holidays;
– Transfer, already in the container at the ports of shipment, to the container, which also affects the delivery time to the end customer;
– Increase in sea freight rates on the part of shipping lines in connection with the demand exceeding supply in this period.

Some recommendations for the ability to level the risks in the delivery schedule and increase the cost of sea freight:

– With known schedules and volumes of deliveries – to book seats on ships in advance;
– Check in advance with the sender the readiness of the cargo and the readiness to ship in accordance with the agreed schedule. This is especially true for shipments on EXW / FCA / FOB terms, since the seller, during a period of lack of space on ships / shortage of rolling stock and an increase in sea freight rates / local costs, pays paramount attention to its obligations with buyers on CFR / CIF / DAP. We remind you that it is under CFR / CIF / DAP conditions that the sender is responsible for the delivery of the cargo to the port of destination / destination, that is, it ships in the first place;
– Splitting large lots into small ones in order to avoid transferring entire lots to the next vessel, in particular, this applies to “heavy” cargo.
